TABEMASHO 2024: The Joy of Matsuri
Saturday, September 21, 2024
3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
Registration and Silent Auction open at 2:00 p.m.
Join us for the Center's largest fundraising event of the year in the Center’s Nisei Community Hall/gymnasium as we celebrate The Joy of Matsuri. Matsuri or festive attire is encouraged!
This year, we will feature culinary creations from Bay Area chefs and restaurants, including some old favorites, like chirashi, Sokoji's famous takoyaki and some new additions.
We are honored to highlight special guests from Japan for our event this year:
- Shinji Kasahara, from Tsubame City in Niigata prefecture, is a fourth-generation craftsman whose family started its metal blade manufacturing company, Tsuboe, Inc., in 1907. He will showcase the beauty and tradition of his high-quality, award-winning graters and demonstrate their use.
- Tsubamesanjo Regional Products – A representative from Tsubamesanjo will bring with him various culinary wares produced by shokunin, or individuals committed to their crafts, who dedicate their lives to perfecting their skills to produce various types of culinary lifestyle goods. Enjoy brief demonstration of the featured products and purchase quality items that often carry generations of durability.
The Joy of Matsuri theme was envisioned to focus on the guests having fun, as they might at a summer matsuri or Japanese festival. It will feature 14 eateries serving guests from Japanese-style yatai (food booths), surrounded by a lively atmosphere with hanging lanterns and festive sounds. Come graze your way through our Tabemasho matsuri with friends, family and loved ones!
Don't be late—registration and the silent auction will open at 2:00 p.m., and the doors to the event will open at 3:00 p.m.
