Special Workshop – Tanzaku Calligraphy with Artist Rihaku Inoue

We are honored to feature modern calligraphy artist Rihaku Inoue at our Annual Tabemasho fundraiser on September 21, and to have her host a special workshop with us on Sunday, September 22. In her special workshop, Rihaku will instruct participants on how to create their own tanzaku calligraphy piece. Tanzaku are narrow strips of specially designed paper commonly used to write poems, create designs and express unique messages. All materials for the workshop will be provided. About Rihaku Inoue: Rihaku is a calligraphy artist and consultant of the Japan Calligraphy Museum as well as a calligraphy professor of the Japan Education Calligraphy Federation. She is also a member of the Art Maison Selecting Committee (AMSC) of Spain and the Paje de Los Suenos Foundation in Madrid, Spain. Born in Okayama Prefecture, Rihaku attended Konan WOmen’s University in Kobe, Japan and currently resides in Nishinomiya. She creates pieces of new, modern Japanese calligraphy using not only traditional ink, but also incorporates color and other mediums including acrylic paints. Based in Japan, she is active at numerous solo exhibitions, workshop and demonstrations domestically and overseas, chiefly in New York. She has provided calligraphic designs to corporations, including label artwork for japanese sake manufacturer Hakushika Sake, as well as wall artwork for a New York restaurant and a roadside rest area at Kasaoka Bay Farm in Okayama Prefecture that has been featured on television.
